The Union for Reform Judaism Supports for Sensible Legislation to End Gun Violence

The recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT was a terrible reminder that over 30,000 Americans die each year as a result of gun violence. While the Declaration of Independence affirms that all Americans are entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, our Jewish values also emphasize the sanctity of human life. We must do all that we can, individually and as a congregation, to address the problem gun violence in our nation.

The Union for Reform Judaism stands for taking action to prevent gun violence, including taking assault weapons off of our streets and improving our system of background checks. The Movement’s Religious Action Center calls upon all members to actively support the sensible gun reform legislation before Congress. Click here to see the RAC’s statement and take action.

In keeping with these values, if you wish to support community-based action for sensible gun laws you can contact Concerned Citizens Against Gun Violence in McLean. CCAGV’s founding members include several TRS members. Email to or telephone Ben Zuhl at: 240-672-2259 (cell).
